PRESS RELEASE
Temperature-compensated, Turnkey, Silo Scale Solution
BELLEVUE, WA, January 9, 2012 — With its vision turning silos to scales,™ Kistler Sensors Inc. has announced its new turnkey, nonintrusive, weight and level measurement solution for bulk material storage and inventory control, Kistler SOLO.™ This technology sets a new standard in weighing for bulk storage monitoring because it offers a highly accurate, repeatable, stable, and affordable measurement solution at performance levels approaching those of highly expensive load cells.
In addition to superior performance, Kistler SOLO is easy to install, calibrate, and operate, all while reducing up-front and operating costs. The Kistler SOLO solution comes complete with intelligent electronics, junction boxes, cabling, and StrainCell™ sensors. The StrainCell technology, combined with the intelligent electronics, offers the most accurate, repeatable, and stable readings in its class.
The StrainCell technology is a new and patented technology invented by longtime entrepreneur and inventor Walter Kistler to overcome a prevailing problem in the measurement world: temperature effect on measurements. “Customers should avoid choosing any bar- or L-shaped sensors since these sensors will cause measurement errors reaching 40–50% of the actual signal to be measured. Our round, small StrainCell intrinsically adapts to changes in temperature, offering the most accurate measurements,” said Walter Kistler.
Installed with a single bolt on the outside of the silo, the StrainCell sensor minimizes accuracy errors inherent with other types of sensors that use multiple fasteners. It also offers continuous and nonintrusive measurement with no contact with the stored product.
These measurements can also be integrated into remote data acquisition or computer and software systems to manage, monitor, and control inventory. Kistler SOLO offers Ethernet, USB, RS-232/485, and other analog interfaces to facilitate this integration. The measurement solutions can also be used to trigger alarm signals and/or send alert emails to selected individuals to help prevent emergency situations.
Field tests run against similar or alternative technologies have proven that Kistler SOLO is ready to take on any other solution in the market and prove that it offers the most value to the customer in even the most difficult of application sites.
“Kistler SOLO is really a product of decades of learning and wisdom,” said Kennan Yilmaz, President of Kistler Sensors. “Our goal is to make this solution so easy to use that it actually comes as a standard accessory for any bulk storage for weight and level measurement. Kistler SOLO is a solution designed for silo weighing; however, we see huge opportunities for the underlying technology, which will be offered to our customers in different forms to reduce cost, manage risk, and help them offer better value to their customers.”
Kistler SOLO is offered in two models: the SOLO Beam Model for legged silos, and the SOLO Skirted Model for skirted silos. Both models are easy to install and easy to calibrate, and provide stable, accurate, repeatable, intrinsically temperature-compensated measurement.
Current applications for Kistler SOLO include cement, plastics, flour, iron ore, limestone rock, coal, and limestone powder – virtually any type of bulk material storage and inventory
control monitoring.
